Teams are on their way to the course for day 2 of the 2009 North Americans… Drop dead gorgeous conditions are in effect, lots of sunshine, flat water and lighter conditions. Temps in the low 70s. Perfect!

The second day or racing at the 2009 Melges 32 North American Championship is dawning. In the overnight lead is John Kilroy and his Samba Pa Ti crew. They did an awesome job of racing taking home a 1-1-2 score. They are four points ahead of locals Don Jesberg on Viva and Stephen Pugh on Taboo.

Immediately following the racing today, the Sausalito Yacht Club will host a Melges 32 North American Championship Bar-B-Que at the club — lots of food, beer and drink well into the evening!

The 2009 Melges 32 North American Championship is officially underway. Today, all seven teams weighed in and have completed registration. Right now they are out practicing, trying to get a real feel for the conditions that await competition on Sunday – the first day of racing. The International Melges 32 Class Association, in full coordination with the North American Melges 32 Fleet, has rescheduled the 2009 U.S. National Championship to take place on September 10-13 in San Francisco, Calif. The event will happen concurrently with the 2009 ROLEX BIG BOAT SERIES, hosted by the prestigious ST. FRANCIS YACHT CLUB.

This will be the fourth U.S. National Championship for the Melges 32. This year the event travels to the West Coast for some big breeze action and the best one design competition sailing has to offer.

The 2009 Melges 32 North American Championship hosted by the SAUSALITO YACHT CLUB (SYC) on September 6-8 will deliver three great days of awesome racing. The Notice of Race (NOR) has officially been released and online registration is open.
