The 2009 Melges 32 North American Championship is officially underway. Today, all seven teams weighed in and have completed registration. Right now they are out practicing, trying to get a real feel for the conditions that await competition on Sunday – the first day of racing. Carlo Alberini Crowned Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series 2009 Champion, Taselaar Wins Final Event In Cagliari

Carlo Alberini on ITA-186 Calvi Network with Gabriele Benussi as tactician, Lorenzo Bodoni, Gaetano Di Granara, Alessandro Frizzarin, Sergio Blosi, Irene Bezzi and Fabio Gasperoni are Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series Champions!
Alberini has been holding the lead flag since Lerici. He signed on early in the season for success with seven impressive victories of the 23 total starts. This alone proves with measurable value that Alberini and tactician Benussi are an incredible force to reckon with on a Melges 32.

This just in! American Pieter Taselaar aboard his Bliksem Melges 32 leads after one day of racing in Cagliari! In second overall is Armando Guilietti at the helm of Lorenzo Santini’s Uka Uka Racing and in third is none other than Luigi Amedeo Melegari on Matrix!
Still leading the series however is Carlo Alberini on Calvi Network, where he continued to duke it out with Claudio Recchi on Team 93.

There are only three days to play everything, and the naming of the Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series 2009 Champion.
After three eventful stages – Malcesine, Lerici and Scarlino, the Cagliari act will take place from July 17-19 and will be the final round of this intense challenge. Head-to-head for the win is Calvi Network’s Carlo Alberini (current overall leader) and defending champion Claudio Recchi on Team 93.

The International Melges 32 Class Association, in full coordination with the North American Melges 32 Fleet, has rescheduled the 2009 U.S. National Championship to take place on September 10-13 in San Francisco, Calif. The event will happen concurrently with the 2009 ROLEX BIG BOAT SERIES, hosted by the prestigious ST. FRANCIS YACHT CLUB.

Marina Del Rey, Calif. (June 17) – The Notice of Race (NOR) and Entry Form for the 2009 Melges 32 U.S. National Championship slated for July 24-26, hosted by the California Yacht Club (CYC) is now available.

This will be the fourth U.S. National Championship for the Melges 32. This year the event travels to the West Coast for some big breeze action and the best one design competition sailing has to offer.
